My name is Sarah Coleman. I am the owner of Sustainable Landscapes ONE, a stormwater management consulting firm, & Four Seasons Landscape & Construction Services. I have an amazing husband & two great kids that are taking the world by force. I am passionate about the planet, our footprint, my health, exercise, creating children that are impactful benefits to society, & one day retiring to travel the world with my husband!
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have two children, a boy 15 & a girl 17. My son attends Calvert Hall & plays soccer as a keeper. My daughter is at North Harford in the small animal program, plays rugby, & looking at colleges to start her next chapter. My husband runs the landscape company, is the backbone of our family, my best friend, & truly the smartest & most interesting person I know.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
My background is in government contracting but I left that & joined my husband in the self employed realm about 11 years ago. We started the landscape company which birthed the split into a second company, Sustainable Landscapes ONE as a consulting firm. I love what I do now. It allows me to create, to learn, to teach, & to introduce the world to the ability to take care of the space around us effectively & with a reasonable cost,
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
The Local, Hopkins Farm Brewery, One Eleven Main
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
40 years.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Favorite Movie- Field of Dreams. Favorite Show- Schitts Creek.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Work life balance is incredibly important & can be obtained but not in the way most people think. It does not mean that we sit around & watch movies without putting in the work. It means we need to put in the work not only at our jobs but also our health & personal lives. It takes time & effort to put an equal amount of work & balance into all aspects of your life. But it can be done!
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Emmorton Snowballs brings me back to my childhood & allows me to have the areas best snowballs even now!
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Alaina Urquhart-White. Host of Morbid Podcast. She is a writer, a podcaster, mother, wife, autopsy tech. I find her to be most interesting, entertaining, knowledgeable, & truly fascinating! I wish I had half the energy she does to accomplish the things she has. I would want to meet her at Das Bierhalle for beers & pretzels!
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I find it so interesting that only our area answers with the high school attended when asked ‘where did you go to school?’
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In 5 to 10 years I will be an empty nester. I hope to be leading the way for the strict stormwater regulations. It is important to me to put the earth first & force local, state, & federal governments to do the same. We can not do anything about the state we are currently in but we can change our views & requirements & improve from here!
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I am going to study for a certification in Kickboxing so that I can teach the elderly & people with disabilities a fun way to exercise, build strength, & confidence!
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Nothing. There is no such thing as perfection. Everything is a practice to improve. We are never really finished with our careers, our purpose, raising our children, our health, our relationships, etc.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
Self improvement comes from with in. It comes from your daily practice of marriage, exercise, food preparation, child rearing, & business building. You have to gain your inspiration from within. That makes it worth fighting for.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Love, Warmth, Comfort
