A wild woman, a fire doula is what other birthworkers call me. Advocating for my clients in traumatic birth environments is something I am very passionate about. Being assertive helps me in my work field but also as a mother and a human being as well. I have a love for all things crystal and magic and nature and try to incorporate them into my business as much as possible — the right clients always find me.  If I am not at a birth, you can find me hiking, meditating, kayaking, watching some trash TV, being with my family and making sure I am staying aware of how to be present in this life. Growing up in Baltimore and coming to Harford County was a game changer, especially during the pandemic. We have so much land and are so grateful for where we live and who we live with. <3

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have the most supportive husband ever, he balances me out.  The yin to my yang.  The king of my heart, body and soul–oh, for all you -Swifties- we have two beautiful children who are 8 and 2.  My daughter is a fireball, a sassy leader who is full of empathy and wild curls. My son helps keep me sane and full of energy, he has completed our family in such a beautiful way.  We live a very holistic lifestyle and love being together in our woods.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I started as a teacher, a nanny, anything with childcare.  Then, I found myself really caring for these mothers.  I always led full moon gatherings where women came and vented and felt validated.  As soon as I knew what a doula was, I just had to look deeper into this work.  It’s my calling and something I was meant to do.  What I love most about my job? The impact that my presence has on these families — how much I mean to them. We all have our moments of doubt and whenever I leave a birth, I just can’t help but think how luck I am to witness such vulnerability and strength.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love The Mint Room– anything Indian and I am there.  Enotria and Acapella are my favorites for pasta. And Newberry Cafe for those pastries. YUM!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
About 5 years!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Oh wow– I would have to say Kelley Halford from Lunar Bay.   She always has something positive to say, she is a soul sister to me, and I have my little she shed office in the back of her building of Lunar Bay.  She kills it with being a human, a mama and a wife.  So inspiring to witness her power.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I love Weeds, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and This is Us. Oh.. and definitely true crime.  A reality that is dark, sappy, funny and super inappropriate is my style. My all time favorite movie is Girls Just Wanna Have Fun with Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt–oh the nostalgia.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Be YOU.  Always.  There is too much hate in this world to spread it on yourself.  The right people will come and stay into your life just by being you.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Any ma and pa shop — those locals and how amazing they are are everything. I love the local farmers market on Saturdays.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
All of my mom friends who are busy making their amazing schedules work for their families–but we always miss each other and I just wish we could all have lunch once a month without any rescheduling.  We would totally go to The Black Forest Taphouse.  Love that they have bands, outside seating and their chicken and waffles are ahhhmazing.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Everyone stands together here, the events downtown are always so much fun.  But the farmers market brings me back every time.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Owning a house with my husband, watching our kids grown up and crying every day about it, and owning a birth center in Maryland because right now there aren’t any and it’s so sad to me.  I want to turn a hotel into a birth center but that’s dreams and goals for the future.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I have webbed toes! Quack! 😛

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
An America that puts maternal health care first.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My family. My sister is my best friend and making sure we always stay close is important to me. She helps me be a better person.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Safe. Comfort. Happy.
