In 1989, my friends threw a surprise party for me. I lived in Montgomery County and friends from Maryland and Virginia were there. There was one special girl that showed up that wasn’t invited. I never met her. I didn’t know she was there. She basically crashed a closed party. Fast forward 10 years, and I’m at a bar. I see a girl that I thought was pretty cute and she was talking with some people I knew. I asked my friend if she was single…and she was, so I asked her out. On this four hour date, we come to find out she was the girl I never met that crashed my closed party. We went on to get married on April 1st, 2000 and have two beautiful daughters. Wow! How time flies. I’m not sure why I shared this story, but hopefully you enjoyed it! It is all true!
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have a beautiful wife, Michele. She is a Dentist. We have two beautiful daughters. One is a sophomore at Pitt and the other is a senior in High School trying to figure out where she’s going to college.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I have been in the Mortgage business for 30+ years. I owned a mortgage company for 15 of those years. My future career is dependent upon me winning the Powerball jackpot. I love what I do because at the end of the mortgage process, someone is either buying their dream home or refinancing to lower payments and save money. Both are rewarding scenarios.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
MaGerks if I’m in the “grabbing a beer” mood and Margherita’s pizza for my comfort food.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve been working in the Bel Air community for the past 20 years.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I will always stop flipping through channels for Field of Dreams. As for TV shows, my guilty pleasure is Pawn Stars.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Do what you love to do. Life is too short to live the life you’re supposed to live. Live the life you want to live.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Tough one. So many cool people to choose from. Jon Bon Jovi is someone I would like to have lunch with. I want to know how he managed to stay so grounded in a career that isn’t so family oriented.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing is the small town charm that it has managed to hold on to when other small towns have opened up to large chains.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see my self still doing what I’m doing. Settlements are still a rush for me. Who knows where I’ll be in 10 years. On my private island?
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Most people don’t know I’m a published author. I released a book on Amazon and it was a best seller for about a week. I still make about $.32/month in royalties. The book is “The Debt Reduction Hack”. I think you can get it for free now. Don’t quote me on that!
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Taharka Brothers Ice Cream. Hands down the best ice cream I’ve ever had. Graham Cracker or Key Lime Pie. Both equally ridiculously good!
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My kids inspire me to be better. I tried not to come up with a cheesy answer, but it’s true. Whatever I do, I try to look at if from my kids point of view. If I feel they think I could do better, I will try to be better!
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
When I think of home, I think of family and community. The third one changes as I go through life.
