Grounded in a purpose of facilitating inner healing and transformation, I embody a multifaceted approach to wellness and holistic health. As a Reiki Master, yoga teacher, and assistant manager of vitamins and supplements at Sprouts Farmers Market, I navigate the vibrant intersection of holistic health and personal growth.
My journey began with a deep desire to transform my own challenges into a source of healing and purpose. This path led me to establish Sattva Rising, where my Reiki, yoga, and coaching practices converge, allowing me to guide individuals toward lasting change and inner fulfillment.
Family is the heart of my life; as a proud member of a mixed-race family, I value community and actively contribute by volunteering at our local school and sporting events.
Whether in a yoga class, a coaching session, or a simple moment of mindfulness, my journey is about building connections and uplifting one another, so we can thrive in our authentic selves and each find our own path to health, wellbeing and happiness.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
We’re a family of 4 humans, 1 dog, 1 parrot and a snake. Having moved from the New York City area in 2018, we’re still pretty fresh to Harford County, though it felt like home here the moment we stepped into our home. We truly love living in this area.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
In the process of overcoming struggles in my life, I discovered my mission and purpose: to help others awaken their inner happiness and free themselves from suffering. I do this through my work in various areas that align with health and wellness. At Sprouts Farmers Market, I’m the assistant manager of the vitamins and supplements department, where I love guiding customers to solutions that support their well-being. As a yoga teacher at Love Evolution, I help students connect to their bodies and minds, empowering them to live more fully. I’m also in the process of becoming a certified health and life coach, building my own business, Sattva Rising, where I’ll offer transformative guidance to help others create lasting change in their lives.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Our favorite restaurants are Sizzling Bombay, Crust Pizza and Fuji Sushi.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
We moved to Bel Air in August of 2018; just in time to settle into our new home before the lock down.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
This is impossible to answer, as I meet new and interesting people daily. Meghan Charles, however, was the first friend I made when moving here and has continued to inspire me every day.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
The Marvel series. I married a Marvel Fan-Boy who quickly took over my Netflix Queue – I’m completely dating myself there, lol! – and now I’m hooked, too.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
One of my favorite quotes is from the former singer-songwriter Nightbirde: ‘You can’t wait for life to not be hard to be happy.’ Feeling unwell or unhappy doesn’t have to be the norm. There are always paths and solutions available, but each of us is unique. The key is to explore which path best aligns with each of our own individual journeys.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
As we’ve only been here since 2018, we still feel very new to the area. However, our celebratory dinner after having our offer on our house accepted was to Neo Pizza in The Festival. It was a great spot for our family as they offered vegan options for the vegan of the family.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I’d love to sit and have lunch with Neil DeGrasse Tyson. We’ve enjoyed his movies and talks throughout the years and I’d love have a long lunch at Sizzling Bombay and listening to him share his thoughts on the Universe.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Our community is truly extraordinary. As a mixed-race family, we were a bit apprehensive about moving away from the ‘Big City,’ unsure of how we’d fit in. But we couldn’t have been more wrong. From the moment we arrived, we’ve felt nothing but acceptance and a warm welcome from everyone.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In 5-10 years, my husband and I will still be here, with our boys hopefully in college or beginning their careers. My coaching business will be thriving, and I’ll continue working at Sprouts and teaching yoga, while my husband remains with Parsons at The Aberdeen Proving Ground. We love how we spend our days now, so I don’t foresee too much changing—just adding more of what we already love.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
When I was younger and making some questionable choices, I adopted a moral guideline to life: if I wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing what I’m doing with my parents, siblings, friends, or the general public, then it’s probably not something I should be doing – or thinking or even believing. This took time to fully integrate into my life, but it shaped how I now live. All that to say, I’m a very open book.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Life.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My family.
Q: What community service or volunteer work do you participate in for your local community?
My mission and purpose in life is in service to others. I volunteer time and services at the boys school and to the sporting events, but in everything I do, is in consideration in how it will help serve another.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Love. Joy. Peace.
